History of Earrings

So just how many ways are there to pierce your ears?  I was pretty certain that there was only just one, well, maybe two or three ways, but that's all, right?  Wrong!  Check out Wikipedia's description of how many locations there are to puncture your auditory orifice!   Try at least NINE locations!

Heck, did you know that in the early 1900's a sailor would pierce one of his ears to signify that he had either circled the globe in his travels or had crossed the equator?!

Piercings and jewerly of all kinds has been prevalent in human history for thousands of years, but ear piercing in particular is documented as one of the oldest forms of body modification.  I can see why, obviously, because as a 14K gold jewelry designer, I know exactly why earrings are so popular.  I feel that earrings simply have the greatest impact of any jewelry adornment that you can wear, because earrings enhance the appearance of one's face and eyes.  Having just the right amount of sparkle on your lobes, by wearing a beautiful pair of amethyst drop earrings or 14K gold hoop earrings changes how you look and how you feel about yourself dramatically!
