I was browsing the Treehugger site today and I nocticed a great story that I wanted to share with you. I'm personally very intrigued by watching how Hollywood is responding to the global evolution of green consciousness, one celebrity at a time. The fact is, as someone who lives and breathes Hollywood, I know that there is no ogranized ability that a collective of people or entities in Hollywood has to influence the masses to go green. Hollywood is a neurotic and amorphous amalgamation of super-powerful people and corporations, but all of them are basically trying to track and follow trends, not really initiate and innovate trends.
It's a fascinating thing that I like to study. I have ascertained that the single most powerful way that influence happens is when individual celebrities make the choice to call themselves out as greenies and forward thinkers. This can happen very easily these days by simply dabbling in green fashion.
One example of this would be Katy Perry was at the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. You have to check out her LED illuminated gown, if you haven't seen it already!
The good thing about this is that it gets people talking. Then, if she manages squeeze in a sound bite or two about how LED lights used in homes can dramatically lower our reliance on grid-sourced energy, that can continue a tremendous amount to raising global consciousness more and more. What's so great about using fashion to make the statement is that it's FUN. And having fun is the surest way to make lasting change for all of us!
