Last night, I had the pleasure of meeting Sophie Uliano the author of Gorgeously Green, 8 Simple Steps to an Earth-Friendly Life and The Gorgeously Green Diet, and all I can say is that this woman walks her talk! First of all, she is absolutely GORGEOUS and has the cutest English accent, and second of all, what she has to offer are some of the most straight-forward, no BS, green living ideas that I had ever heard of. What makes her especially wonderful is the fact that she is not only exceedingly well-informed about the subjects that she speaks on, but she is also so sweet, so engaging and so fun to be around!
Normally, she is speaking to thousands at green conferences all over the country or chatting it up with Oprah, Julia Roberts and the rest of Green Hollywood, but tonight she was speaking to an intimate group of us who had gathered at Evolue Green Beauty Boutique on Robertson in Beverly Hills. She had graciously offered her time to give us a lesson on how to make our very own SUPER- EFFECTIVE Vitamin-C anti-aging serum that could rival or beat the results of any other high-ticket luxury beauty product on the market.
I was totally interested in coming to this event, specifically because I had just recently become aware of how critical it is to use a vitamin-C-based skin care regimen in the effort of keeping my skin fully nourished, plump and healthy. Once I became aware of this natural element of anti-aging, i decided that I was willing to purchase a $150 product which came very highly recommended from one of the most trusted skin care spas in Hollywood. Although I very rarely bow to paying that kind of money for a very small quantity of anything, I decided that my skin was worth it, especially given how much sun damage I had done to it when I was younger.
But on this evening, Sophie changed ALL of that. She explained in simple and no nonsense terms that not only are those outrageously expensive products not capable of delivering on their promises, but that the bio-chemical reality of capturing an element like vitamin-C makes it impossible to bottle without it first oxidizing and breaking down. Then, companies try to halt and cover up that oxidation process with preservatives and fragrances, but it's virtually impossible to stop and you literally end up rubbing the oxidation INTO your skin cells! She went on to explain that the preservatives and perfumes that they add are made from cancer-causing phthalates and that none of this should come anywhere close to our skin.
So, I guess that I shouldn't touch my $150 bottle again, huh?! Well, she made the trip to Evolue so worth it when she explained the science behind and the recipe for our new super anti-aging all-natural alternative that we got to make and walk away with THAT NIGHT. Are you ready for it? Okay here it goes ...
Take 1/4 tsp of Vitamin-C powder from Trader Joe's ($5 and will last you over a year)
Add 1 tsp of distiller water and mix together for one minute
Add 1 tsp of vegetable glycerin oil ($8 from "Now" brand at Whole Foods or online and that will last you over a year too)
And THAT'S IT, you're done!
You mix that simple formula once a week and put it in a glass dropper bottle and the whole magic potion costs no more than 15 cents per bottle. The bottle will last you for a week, so a year's worth of product will put you out for $7.80 All this, and you will be giving your skin everything it needs to stave off the negative effects of aging. Heck, for that cost, I'm thinking about making up a larger bottle by multiplying the quantities and using it all over my body. Sophie definitely recommended using the serum all over your face, neck, shoulders, arms, hands and chest. As final proof that she means what she says, I studied her skin up close when I was speaking to her and she literally has no wrinkles whatsoever and looks as fresh, plump and breezy as a 16 year old.
Her other phenomenal recipes for life-changing products like this are all in her most recent book Gorgeously Green. I highly suggest checking out her website and possibly purchasing a copy for yourself. I don't often recommend something this much unless I believe in it 1000%, and in this I definitely do! I can't wait to try some of her other all-natural beauty recipes this weekend!
Thanks Sophie!
P.S. Sophie is a very happily married woman with a genuinely supportive husband ... so I'm really curious if she has a green wedding ring and eco friendly engagement ring as the bright sparkler on her left hand. I'd be so curious to know!
