Green IS Glamorous!

I attended the "Green is Glamorous" event hosted by Extreme PR this last Saturday at the Libetine on Sunset.  The annual event is the brain child of Misty Griffey, owner of Extreme PR, as a way for her to do her part and raise awareness about social and environmental responsibility in Green Hollywood.  The location that she chose couldn't have been more glamorous as it was the former home of Charlie Chaplin in the late 1920's, before it became a speakeasy, and was then transformed into the green and glamorous backdrop for this great night!

There were celebrities as far as the eye could see.  It was a true example of how far "green" has really come in just the last five years.  Only that long ago, green was still relegated to the fringes of society and seen as something that only people who wore birkenstocks and dreaded their hair would have any interest in.  Well as we all know now, a lot has changed in that short time and events like these draw an exceedingly A-list crowd.

The event was a benefit to support the Toys for Tots charity as well as raising eco-awareness.  Bravo for that!  Often times, I'll see these kinds of events used as greenwashing stunts, without having any real teeth to them.  But the fact that you could not enter the front door without having a toy in hand, which would be given to a child in need, was a happy sight for me.  What else was a happy sight for me??  Cupcakes!  They seem to be the dessert of the masses these days, and that's just fine by me!  They were organic and chocolate and tasty, oh my!  I had about three before I got a hold of myself.

The gentleman that I am pictured with here, Simon, is someone who became a new friend that night.  We didn't know each other previously, but figured that we certainly should get familiar given that we looked like the most glamorous and color coordinated couple at the event that evening.  We found it quite humorous and had to take a picture.  My only issue with his outfit was that his bracelet was not made from recycled gold ... like my 14K recycled gold eco jewelry.  But I gave him my business card and made sure that if he contacted me, I could design something just for him and correct that mistake for next time!

All in all it was such a fun night and after speaking with Misty, it looks like I'll be contributing to her Green is Glamorous campaign as a green expert and guest blogger on her Green is Glamorous website!  Mission accomplished!
