Recycled and Runway Ready

I recently helped behind the scenes with an organic fashion and recycled clothing and jewelry from recycled materials photo shoot.  As you can see from the picture ... the fashions made for this shot were literally made from trash.  One of the dresses was made of bubble wrap and styled into place with duct tape ... something that I had a little experience with if you saw one of my other blog posts.

What I love about fashion shoots and marketing campaigns like this is that they prove how versitile repurposed materials can be if you just take an artists eye to them.  Shots like this make you say, if they can make bubble wrap and used ribbon look like that, maybe I can work with what I already have in my closet a little better, rather than go out to buy a new wardrobe every few months.  I think that other stylists in the fashion industry can take note here and use these ideas to Green Hollywood.

I personally think that overconsumption is perhaps the single biggest problem that we have in America.  Somehow, we are raised with the idea that more is always better and that as long as we make enough money, we should buy and consume everything that our little hearts desire.  This overblown, over-indulgent and overly narcissistic perception of life is what causes the level of environmental destruction that we are seeing around the planet.  Other countries line up to mine and manufacture their precious resources in order to provide us with the never-ending conveyor belt of stuff that our insatiable American appetites demand.  Also, the idea that we will find fulfillment and satisfaction from this merry-go-round of buying more stuff is damaging to our psyches.  Often times, so many of us think that the next dress hanging in our closet will make us feel important and content.

Now, if you're on this website and you're reading this blog, then you're probably someone who has already started to break down that false world view for yourself.  What's nice about getting off of the wheel of consumption is that when you take enough time to know yourself, you understand how to decide what's important.  You feel grateful for what you have, and you know how to thoughtfully add to your collection of worldly treasures slowly and mindfully.

Honestly, that's what I love about my 14K gold earrings.  Every single piece is one which will work with many different outfits and for many different occasions.  You don't need to buy ten earrings, rather, you can invest in one, two or three and know that you're covered for just about all of your outfits and all your moods.  I truly believe in the green evolution covenants of reduce reuse recycle!

And just like the refashioned and chic designs in these pictures, all of my jewelry is made from recycled gold and fair trade gemstones.  You can enjoy knowing that it is 100% pure gold, but that it has also been collected from post consumer sources, including computer parts and industrial components, so that you can express your style with zero guilt about where it came from.

14K Gold Eco Jewelry.  Zero Guilt.  100% Luxury.
